Drawn to Light

I’ve always been drawn to light. The kind that breaks through clouds, catches the edge of a horizon, or appears unexpectedly after rain. I’ve stood in more than one storm hoping for a rainbow and chased more sunsets than I can count.

If you look closely at this photo, you can see the faintest rainbow beside the cross-shaped light. I almost missed it. I probably would have if I’d taken my usual route to the office yesterday. When I pulled over to take the picture, I already knew the camera wouldn’t quite capture what I was seeing.

There is something fitting about writing this first reflection on the final day of September. Today closes not only a month, but the Old Testament portion of the chronological journey I began on January 1. Tomorrow begins October, the New Testament, and it is my wedding anniversary. As I begin another year of marriage and the final quarter of 2026, I feel truly blessed but also aware of so many lessons learned. Trying to summarize is like taking a photo of a striking sky: it will never do it justice. But I’ll try anyway.

  1. Caring deeply doesn’t mean carrying everything.

  2. Growth doesn’t always feel like growth when you’re in it.

  3. Time with loved ones means more to me than my calendar would indicate.

Over the next few days, I’ll build these out in separate reflections. For now, I’m grateful.
